“Recently it was necessary to remove the bathtub from our bathroom in order to allow for a wheel chair. My son, a former contractor, helped me remove the tub, repair the floor and install drywall to repair two large wall openings left by removing the tub. At this time he had to leave and I needed help. I called John at North Twin Builders and soon his men were at my home. They did all the fussy taping work and textured the new drywall to match the rest of the walls. They also installed the new floor molding and best of all painted the entire room the exact color my wife wanted. It was a pleasure to have the North Twin men in our home which I feel they treated as they would their own. “Several years ago I was able to watch North Twin Builders construct a brand new home not too far from my own. “North Twin Builders (NTB) made our lakefront home ready for our retirement. We purchased the home several years ago because it had the lakefront we wanted. The home had recently been expanded by the previous owner, but the “old” part of the home was really out of date. After a couple of summer seasons, we started thinking about retiring to the lake home and we knew some remodeling would be important to make this the perfect retirement home for us. “We had a residing project along with a side porch and did research and gathered estimates from several contractors. I read the reviews and paid attention to their thoughts on the project. What most impressed me with John was the way he thought outside the box. Contrary to what was standard, he had his own thoughts on how things should be done to make them right. I was quite impressed with that. I really can’t say too much more about John that you won’t read in the other reviews. Working with him was a pleasure and he takes his estimate quite seriously and tries to stay as close as possible. There were several unforeseen things that needed to be corrected on my house which called for time and material. It bothered him to go over the estimate, but that couldn’t be helped and was quite understandable. Like I said it was a smaller project so I didn’t see a lot of John during the work although he did stop out on several occasions to make sure it was being done to his way of doing things and to contribute his thoughts to any problem-solving. What I was most impressed with was the help he had. The foreman was Tracy, with a crew of Aaron, Jim, Grover, Greg, and Duane. Each and every one of them was friendly, courteous, hard working and very skilled. They took the project to heart as if it was their own and tried very hard to make sure things were done correctly. Many problems that should have been addressed with the original builder were found and corrected. Some problems were just unique to the house and solutions were garnered from their collective experience that was quite impressive. “North Twin Builders didn’t build our lake home in the Northwoods however John & the entire team at NTB has been a remarkable team to work with as they have made it such we can enjoy our happy place for many years to come. Having been through some not-so-good experiences with other local contractors in the area with not showing up after taking deposits for work, working with NTB is highly recommended. The log lake home my wife & I purchased has been our ultimate Northwoods dream. Unfortunately, after the 1st winter, we noticed that we had problems with ice dams on both sides of the house that required us (me) to shovel the roof several times throughout the winter to minimize the melting trying to control the ice damns from growing & creating more problems. Here are some of the highlights of our project: * Introduction / Consultative meeting time scheduled & John arrived on time. * John spent time explaining to me the problems & the process required to fix the problem. * John pointed me to 3rd party company to conduct an energy audit to locate the heat loss in the cabin. * Provided a very well-written project scope followed up with a detailed estimate of cost & timeline. * The project was entered into the schedule after a signed contract but NTB wouldn’t accept monies until they were needed to secure materials. NOTE: Then as the pandemic created supply chain issues with many materials starting to rise in cost & become almost impossible to acquire NTB called to warn us of the situation & need to secure materials thus asking for a deposit. They were delivered well in advance of the project starting & placed in such a way of great consideration of summer guests had room to park. * Before any work began, the crew took all precautions to protect everything from the decks to sides of the cabin, brought in a dumpster & a port o potty. * Once the work began, the project unfolded like a puzzle taking apart the roof one section at a time with great attention paid to risks of our dream home be damaged with too much of the roof being open at a time. On a Sunday afternoon, as I was getting ready to travel back to Illinois, I noticed that a tarp on one side of the great room was starting to breathe which after a call to Dwayne and John’s son was here within minutes after the call with John and Dwayne onsite just minutes after that to make sure that the roof was secure for the storms that were being forecasted. That next am the Northwoods had storms that removed the power for 47 hrs. Geez, Thank god for Dwayne taking my call on a Sunday. Later in the project, I remember working at the table when my mom pointed out that she could see daylight in the great room & was concerned knowing how special our cabin is to us. After the contractor for the spray in foam left, the NTB crew worked very quickly to button that section of the roof up as rain looked emanate. The crew finished buttoning up that section to make it 100% rainproof until the shingle team could arrive. Amazing. * Dwayne and Grover were amazing to see execute the project plans & work so hard on being so professional every day always leaving the place cleaned up at the end of the day. The communication was over the top with pictures of the “Smoking Guns” as each of the problems were found with either no insulation in places, heat ducts not wrapped, bathroom vents ducted into the attic or places discovered that rodents were coming in. The work included a new kitchen and dining area, en-suite bathroom, structural changes to accommodate enlargement of these areas, and updates to associated utilities. North Twin employees were top notch craftsmen and the office staff was well organized and kept us updated on orders and billing.
